Doringbos is an unparalleled South African bush home that spans over a private farm in the heart of the Cederberg (3,5 hours drive from Cape Town).

What started as an ambitious and logistically challenging idea by the owner to purchase a remote 3000 hectare farm and build a home on this unimaginably beautiful and vast piece of land, stands to life today. Resting cliff-side, elevated above the Doring River, Doringbos overlooks the vast and majestic Cederberg landscape, hundreds of millions of years old.

Doringbos is completely off-the-grid and centred around self-sustainability. The farm is fully powered by solar, and the river provides the farm with fresh water and our borehole water is solar pumped. Serious efforts are made to reduce our footprint by minimising our waste, and reusing & repurposing wherever we can. We are also taking great steps in planting spekboom. All animal manure is re-worked back into the gardens.

The home consists of the main house and her 4 surrounding cottages accommodating 18 guests in total. Two more guests can be accommodated in a private suite on the pan (a 10 minute walk away). The main house accommodates 4 guests in two en-suite rooms and the cottages accommodate 14 guests in 7 bedrooms (5 en-suite and 2 sharing). All the cottages are between a 10m and 50m walk from the main house.

The kitchen and main dining and living rooms are all located in the main house, including the main terrace. All of the rooms in the cottages have tea & coffee stations, indoor & outdoor seating areas and terraces.

Doringbos is well staffed to take care of our guests needs and housekeeping but please expect home-from-home style service.

Doringbos is solar powered with back-up generators. Because of this our bedrooms do not have air-conditioning which one needs to take into account when booking during summer. We do however have ceiling and floor fans in all rooms. The main house and all the rooms in the cottages have wood burning fire ovens for winter.

There are two swimming pools and a fire burning hot tub at the homestead, with a third pool and fire burning hot tub at the pan. The pan is located off the farm road a 10 minute walk from the homestead. At the pan you’ll find a boma for sundowners and dining (including braai & bar facilities), and a private suite. There are also a few small quirks to be found!

There are so many ways to experience Doringbos. If it’s just an escape from the real world and some R&R you are after, you will find few places with such natural beauty and quiet. We love finding a chair or hammock and getting stuck into a good book or bird watching with a glass of Cederberg wine. If it’s adventure you are after, you can go quad biking, mountain biking, rock climbing, river kayaking, fishing, horse riding and game spotting all in a day!

Doringbos is a sustainability focused homestead/villa and farm. All water is fresh river and borehole water that is solar pumped. Further, all waste is removed from the farm. It is fully solar powered and off the grid. There are trees and spekboom to help the environment. We re-use the plastic bottles where drinking water is stored. All animal manure is re-worked back into the gardens.
